The September 2026 issue of Electric Motor Engineering dedicate an in-depth feature to Nicolini & C.
In the interview “There is more than just a product”, the President and CEO Andrea Nicolini describe the skills, customisation, co-design and investments that characterise the company's journey.
The magazine will also be distributed in InnoTrans, in Berlin, an international exhibition dedicated to the railway sector, a field towards which Nicolini & C. is turning its attention with interest.
From design to production
One of the central themes of the interview is precisely the ability to follow the client from the very early stages of the project.
The ability to intervene on both electrical and mechanical design allows for the development custom motors designed to meet specific application requirements, working for example on special shafts and flanges and identifying tailored solutions together with the customers' technical departments.
An approach that finds its completion in production: Nicolini & C. is not only a design partner, but a manufacturing company that keeps strategic processes and production skills in-house.
Automation and control of the production process
In recent years Nicolini & C. has invested in the automation and digitalisation of its production departments.
Among the investments illustrated in the article, special attention is given to’automated wrapping department, equipped with a double-gripper robot operating between various workstations. The in-house production of wound stators allows the company to maintain direct control over a central phase in motor construction, with benefits in terms of precision, repeatability and flexibility.
This is flanked by the digital traceability of production through the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and the identification system via QR code applied to each motor, which allows access to technical information and related product documentation.
New sectors and new opportunities
The interview also looks to the future and Nicolini & C.'s desire to continue diversifying its application areas.
Alongside the sectors in which the company has long operated – from agriculture to high-pressure washing, from fluid power to ventilation – interest is highlighted towards new markets, including the railway sector.
In this area, Nicolini & C. makes its expertise available to tackle specific requests, prepare project documentation and support the approval processes for subcontracting.
Innovating while continuing to manufacture in Italy
The article also features sustainability, technological investments and a choice that continues to set Nicolini & C. apart: production in Italy.
Faced with an increasingly complex market, the company is focusing on process innovation, automation and the growth of internal skills to increase efficiency and quality, while at the same time maintaining the flexibility needed to respond to specific customer requirements.
A journey that continues through new production investments and the search for solutions capable of supporting the evolution of the company and the markets over the coming years.
